Our son was just arrested and he’s been taken to the Maguire Jail to be booked. He was arrested on domestic violence charges after he got into a verbal argument with his wife. We’ve been told his bail has been set at $50,000 and we’ve read that the cost to purchase bail bonds will be 10%, so in this case, $5,000. This is all one big mistake and we’re sure the case will be thrown out. Can we negotiate a better rate? We don’t want to pay more than $1,000 total.
Unfortunately, there is no way to negotiate a $1,000 fee for your son’s bail bonds. In the state of California, the cost to purchase bail bonds is set by the California Department of Insurance. If any bondsman agrees to transact bail for less than the legal rate they could be subject to fines, the loss of their bail license and in some cases, prosecution. If you’re unable to pay the bondsman’s full fee all at once you can ask about a bail bonds payment plan. For more information on how San Mateo bail bonds fees call our office now at 888-224-5266.
