FAQ: What happens when someone is arrested?
If a person is arrested in San Mateo County, they will be taken to the local law enforcement station for booking. The booking process includes fingerprinting, pictures (mug shots), and a background check and warrant search. The defendant will be searched for any drugs or weapons and any personal property will be collected and held until they are released from jail.
Men arrested in San Mateo County are taken to the Redwood City Jail. Women are taken to the San Mateo Women’s Jail.
