A spokesperson at the San Mateo Sheriff’s Department said a local bank robber has been booked and processed into the Maguire Jail.
Defendant Marco Baez is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. If he or a member of his family wishes to move forward with hiring a Redwood City bondsman their cost will be 10%, or $10,000. Payment plans are often available to those who are unable to pay the bondsman’s fee up front, in full. No collateral bail bonds may be available depending on the company the family chooses to work with.
Authorities say the suspect entered the ban on Monday Morning and produced a demand note. The teller handed him approximately $4,000 in cash. This triggered a security alarm which notified law enforcement. At the time the suspect left the bank the teller began to follow the man on foot. He stayed back a safe distance and provided up to date information to the local police department.
Officers were able to track Baez and apprehend him outside a train station just a few blocks away. The defendant was reportedly taken into custody without incident. Baez told police he needed the money to pay rent and other bills. He also indicated his intent to send a portion of it to family members who live in Mexico.
The defendant is due to appear back in court later this month. He is pleading not guilty to all counts.
