Members of the San Mateo Sheriff’s Department have confirmed that a local domestic violence assault suspect escaped from the back of a patrol car. Defendant Juan Valencia was taken into custody last weekend after a neighbor called to report a domestic incident was taking place next door. Deputies arrived a short time later and found Valencia assaulting an unnamed female.
A series of interviews were performed at the scene and the defendant was arrested and placed in the back seat of a patrol car. At some point within the next few minutes Valencia managed to escape. He was pursued on foot and a perimeter was set up but search efforts proved fruitless. It is believed the suspect may be driving a 1991 Acura with California plates.
A spokesperson for the San Mateo Sheriff’s Department said he is wanted for violating a restraining order, escaping custody and felony domestic assault. He reportedly told his family that he had no intention of going back to jail. Deputies do not believe he is armed, but the suspect has been classified as dangerous.
Anyone who believes they have information as to his whereabouts are asked to contact the SMSD immediately. When the Valencia is captured he will be booked into the Maguire Jail where he will be held until his arraignment. It is unclear whether he will be allowed bail or whether jailers will implement a no bail hold. The matter is ongoing.
