Many local residents may not realize that Lt. Ed Barberini is their new chief of police. Barberini said he often has lunch in the downtown area. Sometimes he wears his uniform, others he deos not. The chief reportedly has no interest in trying to flaunt his position but more trying to get to know the locals, instead.
At most accounts he is a local boy. He grew up in a neighboring community but is well familiar with the needs of the Millbrae Police Department. He understands what residents need and is working to learn about their concerns and vision for the city.
Barberini describes himself as being a boring man. He lives a quiet life with his teenage daughter, reads books and has a lifelong affinity for professional sports. He played baseball and football in high school but never thought he had what it took to make the pros.
The chief began his career in law enforcement at the East Palo Alto Police Department and later served in the unincorporated areas of Half Moon Bay and Redwood City. He has experience in patrol, narcotics enforcement and gang abatement. At one time he Barberini assisted at the Office of Emergency Services.
Quiet, uneventful days in Millbrae, he said, will be considered very good days.
