A couple who has been accused of killing a San Mateo man are now behind bars.
The investigation took about a month, police said, and it led them to Leonardo Lopez and Maria Hernandez. The pair is alleged to have entered the home of an unnamed victim in mid-July to shoot him.
Police haven’t said how they learned the now-defendants had fled to Ohio, but a spokesperson for the department did thank the local sheriff’s department for assisting with the early-morning raid and the arrests.
Hernandez and Lopez were detained briefly in the Montgomery County Jail before they were extradited back to California.
The motive for the shooting has not been released.
It’s believed that both defendants could be held on no-bail bonds holds due the severity of the crime. No bail bonds holds at the Maguire Jail are common for those who have been charged with murder.
Lopez has two prior strikes and could face 25 years to life if convicted.
