A local drug dealer is in custody after he called the San Carlos Police Department to report his vehicle drugs and cell phone had been stolen during an armed robbery.
The defendant reportedly traveled to the parking lot of a fast food restaurant with the intention of selling more than two pounds of marijuana. The drug deal quickly went bad, he said, and the person he was meeting with pulled a gun. After the incident took place Jia Li reportedly called police to say he had been held up after attempting to sell drugs to a person he had spoken to but had not met in person.
Officers quickly responded to the scene. Li was promptly arrested and charged with the transportation of drugs and possession with the intent to sell. He has since been booked into the San Mateo County Jail in lieu of what is expect to be $30,000 bail. It is unclear whether Li, one of his friends or a family member has attempted to reach out to a San Carlos bondsman to purchase a bond. If they do their total cost would be 10% or in this case, $3,000. If the cosigner on the bond has good credit they may be eligible for a monthly payment plan.
Authorities say the have since located Li’s stolen vehicle. A search of the car uncovered plastic zip-lock bags, a digital scale and approximately 2 lbs of pot. The carjacking suspect remains at large. Anyone with any information is urged to call the San Mateo Sheriff’s Office to place an anonymous tip.
