A representative from the San Mateo Police Department said that although they initially believed there may have been a fourth suspect linked to last weekend’s burglary-turned-car-chase, they have checked with eyewitnesses and have determined there were only three men involved in the crime.
Sources said the incident began when the three young men, ages 20, 21 and 22, broke into a local home. When police began their pursuit the driver of the getaway car accelerated to high rates of speed, leading officers on a chase throughout the city. That car eventually crashed into a guardrail.
No one was hurt, according to officials, but the suspected burglars were taken into custody.
The defendants were arraigned earlier this week; it wasn’t immediately clear if any of the men had a prior history of arrest or if they were under the supervision of a probation or parole officer.
If they don’t post bail bonds after court and their case is still pending, they’ll remain in custody at the Maguire Jail until the matter concludes.
