In mid 1993 the SMPD employed a Community Oriented Policing program. Through Community Oriented Policing the Department works closely with citizens, business owners, service organizations, utility companies and outside agencies in an effort to enhance the quality of life for citizens and visitors. When someone is arrested by a member of the San Mateo Police Department they will be taken to Redwood City to be booked and processed. Men will be taken to the Maguire Correctional Facility whereas women are transported to the Women’s Correctional Facility.
