The town of Woodside is among the smaller, incorporated towns located in San Mateo County. The most recent census data puts the town’s population at about 5,500, yet it is among the wealthiest areas within the country. Realtors note that were a vacant lot to be listed on the market it would easily sell at a price point in excess of $1 million. Some of it’s more famous residents have included Neil Young, folk singer Joan Baez and Shirley Temple.
The business district is relatively small and includes a hardware store, horse and tack store, a grocery store, an art gallery and framing studio, a saloon, a grocery store and three restaurants. Horses are a big part of the town’s culture and many of the area’s homes are considered to be farms.
Woodside is considered to be a safe place to live. This is due largely in part to the efforts of the men and women of the Woodside Police Department.

The San Mateo Sheriff’s Department has long been contracted to provide Woodside Police Department services. The town does not have its own brick and mortar station. Deputies instead are headquartered out of Redwood City. This is not to say the area is not actively patrolled. Deputies and members of the California Highway Patrol keep regular watch over residents and their guests to ensure the highest levels of safety are maintained.
When someone is arrested in Woodside they will be transported to one of the Redwood City jails to be booked and processed. This often takes between 4 and 6 hours. You will still want to contact and expert bondsman as soon as you learn of the defendant’s arrest to ensure they can get out of jail as quickly as possible.
